Top To Bottom
Following the icy conditions experienced across the resort on Friday, I awoke at 5:25am on Saturday morning to find a layer of white across the village and snow still falling.
Along with many others I checked in for the annual Top To Bottom race at Thredbo. Wow - what a surprise - as we rode the Kosi Express at 6:00am through the falling snow and darkness I could make out a thick creamy layer of new snow from top to bottom on Crackenback.
Due to the poor visibility it was decided that the start would be moved from the top of Karels T-bar to behind the top of Crackenback. I managed two pre race runs - can't say they were much of a course inspection - with the poor vis and all that untracked powder crying out to be skied. I enjoyed the race as well.
It snowed heavily until after the race presentation and then at around 8:30-9:00am the snow stopped falling and the sun emerged to reveal all the new snow 10-15cm deep at the top of the resort.
There were freshies everywhere. The new snow was smooth and creamy. Not super light but just what we needed to bond with and soften Friday's ice base.
Today the snow pack was considerably more packed than yesterday but still a lot of fun. Not much in the way of fresh tracks in the resort but still lots outside.
