Epic
What an amazing 24 hours! OK I've seen better but rarely in Thredbo. It snowed pretty much all day yesterday and around 8pm I went wandering around the village being amazed by the quantity of snow on the roads and the paths & stairs.
I awoke this morning to a clear blue sky. Aha, I thought - I'd better get down to the chair a little earlier because the fair weather riders will be out. The KT web site said 50cms of fresh up top and 20-30 in the village. Yep, I'll give them that.
I arrived earlier at Kosi base but still only made the 15th chair. There was a slight delay in proceedings but rightfully so as an avalanche on the Bluff soon showed. I failed to get a photo of it as the weather changed quickly - the wind rose and the cloud moved in limiting visibility.
I went all over from Kosi chair getting some deep turns. The bottom of Little Beauty was heavy but the lowest lines through the trees just above the village were lightest (out of the wind). I skied lines without names and would have loved to have stayed out but for having to inspect building works done during the week.

Steve had his work cut out preparing Avalanche Cafe after so much snow
but still made it to the front of the Kosi Q
What a start to an amazing day

Yes, there's still some accommodation left for 2014 but it's going fast - click on above link.
Epic but not over. It's snowing again as I type and there's good snow due on Saturday :-)
Please take extreme care on the roads and don't rush it. There have been several serious accidents all due to driving too fast on icy roads. When driving on snow, leave at least 50m to the next vehicle so if it stops or slows you have time to do the same without going off the edge and down into the trees.
Global warming is blamed for ice sheet retreat and now for its expansion? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2681829/Global-warming-latest-Amount-Antarctic-sea-ice-hits-new-record-high.html
I'm loving it ;-)
