Being Frank

Yesterday was a brilliant sunny day with the consequential fair-weather queues. Today started off looking to be another of the same but by the time lifts opened all had become overcast and the wind lifted.

Kosi chair opened very early this morning, catching me out. I assume it was to get the school races under way as early as possible. There wasn't much groomed on Crackenback and as soon as the T-bars opened I was off to Antons and Sponars where queues were minimal and the grooming was extensive.

My favourite today was The Tunnel, which had been groomed. I did several in there. Sponars was starting to pick up some wind drift that was very pleasant under foot and Patrollers' Paradise was that.

The adrenalin hit of the morning was when a high speed snowboard (sans rider) hit the tip of one of my skis whilst I was riding Antons T-bar. The same runaway board knocked Butch from the T he was riding in front of me. I last saw the deadly missile racing towards the bottom of Antons and I only hope it didn't hit any one else. A hundred metres or so above the collision I did see an idiot child running down the T-bar line after the death trap.

But being frank about today, the day is a great day - for today is young Frank's 93rd birthday. He may not hit the slopes any more but he is undoubtedly one of Thredbo's finest chefs.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRANK !!!

The forecasts still look good for fresh snow arriving later tomorrow and hanging around for several days.
