Last of the Quiet Times

Saturday's sunny conditions saw grass and rocks emerging on nearly every run and my rock hoppers needed some burrs removed at the end of the day. With little snowmaking available during the week due to temperature inversions the open runs were looking rather scratchy.

The long awaited snows finally came on Sunday but without wind - an unusual event in Thredbo. Approximately 10cms of new snow and lower temperatures enabling snowmaking really helped to improve conditions.

School holidays get under way next weekend and with bookings at a premium large numbers are expected on the slopes. There were an unexpected number of people in the village over the weekend and the restaurants were pushed to the limit. Good practice for the next 10-12 weeks.

This morning was fast yet carvable and one of the last opportunities to let some speed loose on the Supertrail for run after run. Were this morning's empty slopes a result of the 'Red Party' last night? More than likely.

Still no T-bars, except Easy Rider, are open. The next front is forecast for next weekend. Hopefully it will rival last year's June 29 dump of 40cms and arrive ahead of time.
