One Hit Wonders
Finally on Saturday the wind eased up and allowed the One Hit Wonder jumpers to do their thing on the monster jump built above top station of Cruiser Chair. It was spectacular and I hope the photos below do them justice.
Another one hit wonder this weekend was the visit by Charlie Kelly. Now in his mid 80's Charlie came out for a ski in the Basin and he looked as though he'd never stopped. The one-piece suit and bum bag have aged well if not gracefully ;-) Like many of us, loaded up on painkillers, Charlie had several runs before and after morning coffee. Charlie was one of the stalwarts of the "Black Diamond Club" in Thredbo (something I've only heard about) and was known for his antics on the road in his V8 panel van.
Sunday arrived and although the lift crew were only up to loading chair 60, I was very surprised to find myself first in line again. I think Kim was equally surprised to find himself second again. Just before opening time a bit of a queue had developed but hey, it was a sunny Sunday morning. I had plans and after one run down a fairly firm Supertrail, I was into an early opening Basin and then up an even earlier opened Karels and out the back. In a breeze around 25kph and after some time untangling knots, I eventually launched my kite (for the first time in 3 years) in the bowl below Signature Hill. The wind was variable and swirling, causing my kite to behave somewhat erratically and after an hour I gave it away, to try again another day. I wasn't the only one out there with a kite but I haven't heard how they fared.

At first I thought he was heading to Funnel Web
But instead Charlie found some very nice snow in the Basin

The weather turned a little feral this morning. Heavy fog and light drizzle put a dampener on proceedings and I decided a sleep-in was in order. The forecasts don't look all that exciting either :-( but how often are they correct ;-)
