Getting The Wind Right Up You

Work has been so busy that I haven’t been able to take the time required to hike out to the high snow slopes. As today's exercise I did a very quick walk out to the Kosciuszko lookout to see how the snow-covered slopes were holding up.

A very strong wind made every step out toward Mt Kosciuszko seem like two but the return walk was nicely aided with the same wind at my back.

The snow pack is remarkably firm especially when compared to this same time last year. The top 1-2cm is soft but your feet do not sink any further into the base. The snow is dirty and in many places very orange but should be fun on the weekend when I plan to go out for the entire day (weather depending of course).

For those of you wondering if there is anything left on the main range - the answer is 'yes', as long as you don’t mind a little sand blasting of your bases.
