A Bridge Too Far
Acacia & Peter of K7 Adventures sought an answer as to where the DHG bridge over Bogong Creek had gone (see my previous report).
Ranger Rob Gibbs reports:
"Hard to believe but it has actually snapped off its piers and washed about 150 m downstream and sitting at the bottom of a pool just below junction of Bogong Creek and Thredbo river. Hard to believe that it washed all that way through trees and rock/boulder gardens to end up there in largely one piece except for handrails. Just shows the power of flood waters through those creeks.
Checked lower bridges yesterday. They have survived unscathed apart from a bit of debris which I have removed.
Advice has been given to KT and advisory / warning signs going up this arvo on connecting track network etc."
Amazing indeed! I've scoured my photo collection so as to provide a small tribute to the BRIDGE at the end of this report.
The dead trees look strange on the far side of Golf Course Bowl
Looks like a lot of trees have fallen - something I haven't noticed before

Fond memories of the Bogong Creek bridge in better times
Many use the Bogong Creek bridge in summer and winter
Jax on the metal structure - so hard to believe it was pushed 150m downstream
Marion and I went to Eagles Nest yesterday on the recently re-opened Kosciuszko Express quad chair to check out the renovations in the restaurant. All looks good - new owners Steve and Sarah have been busy. We followed up lunch with a stroll along the Kosi path to view the few remaining snow patches, without actually going to a lot of effort. There is still snow out there but not much.
I am also pleased to announce that earlier in the week, just past Lake Crackenback Resort, right in the middle of the Alpine Way, I saw an adult emu with 4 striped chicks.
We have had a mild return to winter over the weekend with a series of cold fronts passing our way. Winds have been up and temperatures down. Liftees reported Saturday morning’s wind chill at -8C. It was only around 0C when we rode the chair to the top and somewhat warmer on our descent.
The forecasts for possible snow flurries vaporised, as the weekend got closer. The wind speed meters (anometers) are still out of action so we can’t get a real handle on what has been blowing around the resort but it has been stronger than anything over the past month or so.
Happy Birthday to Jax, Scot & Mary.
