One of the Biggest Falls This Year
Following from last Friday's report about the forecast, this report should give you some idea how accurate the bureau was. I often have a go at weather forecasters for their errors but they went out on a limb forecasting the quantity of snow that was to fall this weekend. By Saturday morning the forecast was for 50cm.
Locals told me that the snow was very dry and light around midnight but it was very wet and heavy by coffee time this morning. Several trees have lost limbs due to the weight of the heavy snow. Luckily we didn't lose electricity supply, as there are branches down all over the village.
Reports say 20cm overnight up top and 10-15cm in the village - and that is what settled on the ground. A lot more fell before the ground was cold enough to allow the snow to settle.
It has been a snowfall that would be welcome any time in winter let alone one week from the start of Summer.
Snow on the trees at 6am this morning
High Noon and Lower Sundance (aka Lovers Leap ByPass)
Bottom of High Noon showing water rivulets in the fresh snow
Crackenback at 9:00am
You don't expect me to go out in that?
Any form of snow plough helped ;-)
Outside the bakery
Looking back past Squatters Run and the Village Square
Tree branches down everywhere - just lucky that the village is empty
Only in Australia ... RTA road reports for South-Western / Southern NSW:
Friday morning: HAZARD - Motorists are advised that an extensive locust outbreak is occurring in areas ...
Saturday morning: ADVERSE WEATHER - SNOW - Alpine Way - Chains are required from the Park Entrance Station to Leather Barrel Creek...
It is still snowing - albeit very wet snow in the village. I am now waiting for the winds to drop and the precip to dry up before going higher for a better look.
The fun for the rest of today is to avoid being bombed by snow dropping from roofs.
Grumpy Telstra Report:
Rosco informed me yesterday that his Thredbo phone has been cut off. He asked Telstra, back in August, where his phone bill was and they refused to tell him because they knew his date-of-birth better than he did. I encountered the same problem with Optus some years ago and ceased doing business with them after that. It is about time that offending telecommunication companies were truly made accountable for what appears to be nothing short of corporate bullying of their customers.
