Sun, Rain & Snow
My forecast came true – all you have to do is be truly vague. Tuesday was a beautiful day and with a mini freeze some upper slopes were firm in the morning. Sasha’s Schuss was a treat but it meant coming back to a very long lift line in the Basin.
Friday Flat has moved to the Basin. All lessons including first timers were there and it took me close to 30 minutes to get a lift out of there. With Karels still open, the climb to Signature Hill was made easier. The creeks are flowing under the snow and you now have to be really careful where you step lest your foot, if not your entire leg, beaks through the snow into the dark void beneath. The snow on Signature Hill varied depending upon aspect and angle. My two runs were very different to each other.
The traverse from Crackenback to Antons was still open but it was a one-way trip requiring a download on Merritts or Gunbarrel to get back to anything else. There was no lift line at Antons or Cruiser but the snow was sticky and sloppy in the late morning sun. Gunbarrel ceased operation on Tuesday. All lower runs including the Supertrail and Friday Flat are closed.
It rained yesterday and we had a good thunderstorm last night followed by torrential downpours that woke me a couple of times. This morning it has been snowing right down to the village. With the rain damage last night and only Cruiser and Basin lifts open for skiing & boarding, I decided not to go out today. The main range should be nice once we have some visibility.
