Sago Saturday

After gentle rain last night before I went to sleep, I awoke to a dusting of new snow over the village this morning. Up top things had improved a good deal on yesterday. But better was to come.

After initial showers of large sago balls (looking more like polystyrene beanbag filler) blizzard conditions kicked in around midday and did not abate all day on top of the mountain. This meant you could go back over the run time and time again and not see your tracks.

My guess was that 10cm fell on the upper slopes during the day, on top of about 4-5cm overnight. Today was the first day this season that I skied till the close of lifts - how good a day was that?

If this keeps up, tomorrow could be quite spectacular. It is snowing on the upper half of the mountain as I type this. Mind you, rock hopping skis & boards were a distinct advantage as you could go anywhere.

Best runs were Sasha’s, Wiamea and the Bluff. What a great way to finish September and a real surprise for all the Queenslander first timers to Thredbo.
