Making The Best Of It

Currently the official base depth (measured at Spencer’s Creek) is at 75.5cm, which is still some 15.5cm shy of the 91.0cm recorded for the worst season ever – 1982.

We have only had a trace of new snow this week. There has been some wind and some lifts were closed for a while yesterday but otherwise we have had clear cool sunny weather.

Thredbo still has top to bottom skiing. The bottom (only a manmade base) is surprisingly good on the Supertrail, High Noon, Sundowner and Friday Flat. The bottom of Antons and Sponars (no snowmaking here) are very poor. The bottom of the Basin is poor but otherwise the Basin and Karels are fun.

The Sprite sessions have been on this week, providing some great views of young people trying to avoid a sled ride down the mountain care of ski patrol. It has been good to see many more skiers now participating and no longer is Big Air a domain mostly of boarders.

The Top To Bottom is on this Saturday morning. Due to lack of snow cover it appears as though the start will be from the top of Snowgums chair.

The forecast is for some snow early next week. My mother has always claimed that it would snow on every August 15th and so it will but how much? I’m not holding my breath – we will just make the most of what we have – and enjoy it.
