One Saturday Morning …

Following my reconnaissance trip on Friday, Ray and I decided to take our ski gear up to Signature Hill first thing on Saturday morning.

Our jackets were off before we began putting in our boot track up the side of the main face. Much snow had melted over the preceding two weeks - at the top of the hill there was 1 to 2 metres less snow than last time. The ever expanding islands of vegetation meant that we only had the steeper top sections of the hill to enjoy. And enjoy we did, on a fast, soft surface with a firm base although the sound of fast running water kept as wary of where we were going.

The first run down was sweet as was each following descent. The snow did begin to soften more by 11:30am and we finished just prior to midday. The run through the rocks to the lowest snow pack was one I would not repeat this year as we gingerly traversed two snow bridges over fast flowing creeks.

I seriously wonder whether there will another ski this year. There is still snow out there but the forecast of rain tomorrow and on Tuesday could well spell the end to anything other than small drifts being left behind.
