Flying Towards March
The days are getting shorter but winter still feels a way off. Alas, the March flies (and it's only mid January) have arrived to the high alpine areas with the heat wave. I encountered none of these persistent biting pests on Saturday but this morning they were out in great numbers above Eagles Nest - may be drawn to the spectacle of Rubber Duckie on snow ;-)
When I heard Vanessa say this morning (on ABC TV weather) that she was missing her rubber duckie mate (c/- Sydney Festival in Parramatta) I couldn't resist getting a shot or several of an alpine rubber duckie chilling out whilst waiting for next weekend's 20th Anniversary Thredbo Blues Festival.
There are still some patches of snow on the Snowy Mountains. Rubber Duckie found his cool spot only 10 minutes from the top of the Kosciuszko Express chairlift in Thredbo.
Although it might be hot in Thredbo it won't be nearly as hot as most other places in OZ.

With temperatures forecast to begin dropping by the weekend, I would expect/hope that the March flies might crawl back under their rocks.
