Nothing But BLUES Skies And Rain
This weekend was the 20th Thredbo Blues Festival and indeed no disappointment. The crowds had already built on Friday afternoon and on a hot and balmy Friday evening the Festival got under way. And what a weekend it was - right up till late on Sunday night.
We had light rain each evening to help cool the night air whilst the days were (in Thredbo terms) hot but still way below the temperatures being experienced in other parts of the state.
The weekend was hot in more than just temperature with a wealth of talent performing all over the village. The only complaint I heard from guests was that there simply wasn't enough time to catch every act.
The Andrea Marr Band in the Village Square on Saturday morning
Genevieve Chadwick (who blew us away last year) at Poolside
I enjoyed a great lunchtime gig at Eagles Nest with Hat Fitz & Cara
This is Cara, Hat was tucked into the corner
Rick Price in the Kosi Room on Saturday night and what a night it was
Yes, I've apologised for my poor night time photographic equipment
The Foreday Riders in the Village Square on Sunday morning
Late Sunday morning - we all needed a sleep in ;-)
Jeff Lang at Poolside on Sunday afternoon
Jeff was accompanied by the coolest of drum masters - Danny McKenna
As though Jeff Lang, Rick Price, Ray Beadle and Kevin Borich weren't enough
Wendy Matthews' two appearances took our hearts away
The last time I saw Wendy Matthews live was as a back-up singer in the Basement at Circular Quay
I daren't say how long ago that was.
They were hanging from the balconies to catch Wendy and her band. What a voice.
You're welcome back anytime.
My impression was that numbers were well up on last year and apart from a few delayed starts everything ran perfectly. A big thank you to all the artists, the organisers, the sponsors, the Thredbo Chamber of Commerce (and Jen in particular), KT, the volunteers and the wonderful audience. Come back again soon.
Today the weather has finally returned to more typical Thredbo Summer - just delightful. Last week, three days in a row, the thermometer on my balcony (yes it's in the shade) read 35C at 5pm and others backed me up with similar readings.
Australia Day weekend is only days away. Have a big one and play safe.
