Game On
Last Monday much of the South East was under water. As I travelled towards Sydney I found roads under water in Berridale and Cooma. Lake George was again, but it didn't last and appeared somewhat grassier on my return on Thursday.
I got back into the village just before the white stuff started falling. I could still here rain drops on the roof top as I went to sleep but I was awaken at 6am to the sound of snowploughs on the roads. I can't think of a better way to be woken.
The village had a white cover and around 8am the snowfall intensified. The wind was hurricane strength and the snow was horizontal. I did not bother to return to Friday Flat despite Pete's text message that it was boot deep. That meant pushing down Friday Flat in a straight line.
It kept snowing all day and the mountain kept looking better and better.
This morning I hopped on the bus to Gunbarrel to see the usual crew hogging the front of the queue. Unsurprisingly there were delays getting lifts open but once I got to the top of High Noon I was met with a surprise run of dry windblown powder on top of groomed corduroy. The off piste was heavy in places and I avoided it. It is just too early in the season for these old legs that hadn't really skied since last October, excepting feet warm-ups on Friday Flat.
By the 3rd run down High Noon it was getting a bit scratchy from the top of the steep section down. When Cruiser finally opened (it also had troubles) I did a few there on lovely corduroy before coffee and cake at Merritts. After this the queue had grown a lot on Cruiser so it was back to High Noon for a few.
The word was that Kosi chair would open for skiing later today. When I got back to the village they were still grooming Supertrail so nothing was going to happen for a while. There's always tomorrow - well at least for the next few months.
Apologies for not stopping and taking photos of the freshies on my first run - it was too nice to stop.

This morning (Saturday) and a little ray of sunshine touched the slopes

The forecasters seem to think there will be no more snowfall until at least Thursday. The 540 line indicates otherwise. Time will tell.
It's Supertrail tomorrow for me assuming I pull up well from Pete's birthday party tonight.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETER! Will he make first chair tomorrow?
VALE Ivo, who recently passed away. I never actually met him but like everyone else, I knew his mail box at the top of Penderlea Hill.
