One Day To Go
Well, here is my last pre-season report because on Saturday it is "officially" snow season. I went for a quick stroll behind Eagles Nest this morning. It felt cold and after last night's clear sky and morning frost I thought just may be there might have been some snow made but that just didn't happen.
All the forecasters from the BOM through to The Frog think there might be a little snow on Saturday. At least that would make it feel more like winter.
On the main range there are drifts of snow and you don't have to go too far if you want to have a little play in the snow. No, not skiing or boarding but snow balls and snowmen type "play".
Yesterday evening I attended a presentation by the Thredbo chamber of commerce and KT. It was a very positive presentation with news of what is coming this year and in the future. I'm not going to give specifics here as nothing official was handed out but you will be pleased to hear of 2 new lifts not just 1.
The new high speed Ramshead chair is planned to start from around Tower 10 and stop just south of the top of Karels T-bar. This lines up with the survey pegs I've been reporting in the past. I'll leave you guessing about the second lift announced ;-)
Also announced were new ski runs and exit from Golf Course Bowl. The best completion time was for the start of the 2017 season but there are still some 'ifs' to get over. There were also announcements about some new summer activities for the mountain including a series of zip lines and a whole bunch of money savers for visitors coming to Thredbo.
I won't go any further now that you've started salivating. Hopefully the official release of what we were told will not be far away.

Only one week away is Friday the 13th of June and it is also a full moon. The association of a full moon and heavy snow falls is familiar to many. Being that it is happening on a Friday the 13th could mean almost anything. It will be 35 years before the next full moon falls on a 'Friday the 13th', so it is a special/rare occurrence, whether you be superstitious or not.
Like with my white Jazz festival forecast, I'm willing to go out on a limb and predict a substantial snow fall on or very close to Friday June 13th. I wish I could promise you more sooner.
Wax those boards and check the boots for funnel web spiders. For those coming to the snow this weekend I wish you all a safe drive and for locals reading this, remember the speed limit has changed on the Alpine Way.
One final thing, you may have noticed some google ads have appeared on my report pages. Follow them and earn me a few cents ;-)
