Colonel Custard in the Library with a Knife
Sorry for the board-game analogy but after 48 hours of no snowmaking, temperature inversions and the like, the snow is not looking quite the pristine white that it was on Wednesday and you needed good edges to cut through.
The top of the mountain was softer than the bottom. The groomers weren't frozen right over but were still quite firm. The temperature seemed to drop a few degrees in the short time I was out this morning and the snow firmed a little more.
The groomers had done a good job last night - they just didn't have much to work with. Consequently brown spots and the odd loose rock were encountered.
Eagle Way (weakest link in Wednesday's report) has been significantly widened. This will help get you from the top of Crackenback the top Snow Gums - even if just to give you more room to negotiate the bodies.
Work was going on inside Kareela Hutte today - supposedly opening tomorrow. Speaking of good food spots it has been suggested that I start a food and wine report. Is anybody interested? ciau@ciau.com.au
Dark clouds over the valley early in the morning
Milk Run - slow down - boarder down
Supertrail below Bunny Walk station looking scratchy
A few flakes of white could be seen at the top and when a few drops of clear started appearing on my goggles at mid station I decided to call it a day.
There is a lot of precip forecast over the weekend. It is currently drizzling that very fine drizzle in the village and the cloud is covering everything above Lovers Leap station. This might all sound depressing but if the temperature drops a smidgen then we might experience what occurred this time last year - 40cm down to the village.
