Friday the 13th
I don't consider myself superstitious but hey - I needed a title for today's report.
After Wednesday's wonderful conditions of smooth fast groomers under a clear blue sky and a refreshing breeze the first signs of the next front began. Although I like to think the drought is easing we experienced another layer of red dust with the gale force winds on Thursday prior to thunderstorms and heavy rain in the village overnight.
The Thredbo weather station, reporting 5kph winds, is not at all well as winds were more like 100kph.
Yesterday's (Thursday) winds hampered the opening of Cruiser which meant I didn't get out for those early morning runs. The strong winds also kept the wind chill factor below zero but actual air temperature did not feel very cold. Of course that is expected to change today or tonight as blizzards are forecast. Strangely enough there is no sign of cloud in the sky this morning - I guess there's a lot on its way.
The following photos were taken on Wednesday:-
Snow making around the bottom station of Merritts chair
The bull wheel looking like a giant white vinyl record player
Great grooming, no crowds and fantastic weather
The rains have affected the cover around the village but I believe this was converted into a light dusting of snow up top as temperatures dropped.
House of Ullr is expected to open tonight which will certainly cheer up the lifties who frequent this popular watering hole.
