ANZAC Snow
It started snowing in Thredbo on Tuesday and by Wednesday morning (ANZAC Day) there was a cover of white across the mountains. It settled to around 1400m and I didn't expect it would last for long.
Today, after a heavy frost, I decided to go up Kosi chair and have a look around. Well, what a surprise. There is a good deal of snow up top four days after it fell. This is mainly due to consistently cold temperatures and even at midday today the wind chill up top was sub zero.
Another surprise was the number of people out and about around Eagles Nest. Many of whom did not looked wrapped up sufficiently. It was cold up there but beautiful all the same.
Lunch time Tuesday and big flakes are falling in the village
ANZAC Day morning
Snow settled to around 1400m - Wednesday
Today - Saturday - and a good early morning frost
The Basin and Karels this morning
The Mt Kosciuszko walking track with Sig Hill in the background
Summer Drift
Some snow drifts were quite deep
I would estimate 15-20cm where it hasn't melted yet
Yes, a shot from the bridge
My interpretation of the charts says there may be some more snow next week and with ground temperatures low, it may build on what's already there.
On a different note, I'm told Kosi chair will shut after tomorrow for pre-winter maintenance :-(
Snowgums chairlift will take you to the snow from then.
Reminder: Don't forget that, if you put down a deposit last year on a cheap 2012 Thredbo season pass, your final payment is due before May - that leaves you 2 days. Get online, on the phone or on your bike.
