Alternate Paths

With the Snowy Mountains experiencing above average temperatures over the past few days the snow base (yes there is some left) has become very soft and slow.

The walking tracks are now mostly clear of snow and the lower trails shaded from the sun offer some exercise without baking.

The crowds are growing - I actually came across two couples walking down the Merritts Nature Trail while I went for maximum cardio-vascular by hiking up to Eagles Nest.

I was told today that a brisk walk up to Crackenback from the village will take an hour. The record supposedly is 17 minutes. Let it be known that I wasn't even close to 'brisk' but then I did lunch on the way, take the odd detour and stop for the occasional photo.

From next Saturday I'll be away from Thredbo for about 6 weeks so there will be a delay in my next report. I'll be back - around New Year. Must remember the fly repellent and sunscreen.

Till then...
