More Runs And More Lifts
Come Saturday morning and I was on 2nd chair on Snowgums with John for some upper Supertrail action. Surprise, surprise, the lower Supertrail was NOT closed.
Conditions at Ski-in Ski-out were "agricultural" but then the signs below BunnyWalk did say "Walking Only". John and I enjoyed first tracks down Supertrail. I then relented to just skiing upper Supertrail - loading at BunnyWalk station although I did ski to the bottom again at the end of my day.
This morning, whilst walking to Snowgums, Pete asked why I wasn't going to Kosi chair. I didn't even know that it was open for skiing. I joined Butch and another couple for first chair on Kosi - and I wasn't even trying.
Eagle Way was OK. Off piste is still boilerplate. My first Supertrail top-to-bottom with Butch, Rae & Scot was interesting to say the least. The dark early-morning shadows disguised the very firm snow making whales and the unevenness of the lower slope grooming. Scot, who by now was leading the pack, took a horizontal flight through the air with a significant hip-check landing. We all stopped to ensure he could still walk and then went back to Kosi for more.
I was quite impressed by how well the night crew had prepared the lower Supertrail considering the snow making that started early last night was unable to continue at lower levels all night. Yes, the bottom of Milk Run is very thin and narrow but I did not hit any rocks on my 4 runs top-to-bottom.
Yesterday the Easy Rider T-bar at Merritts opened. Today the Basin T-bar started up. Conditions were extremely firm but then that pretty well described everything this morning. After 2 runs in the Basin I went for coffee and then headed back to the office.
A big congrats and thanks to the groomers, snowmakers and ski patrol for allowing us access to so much of the mountain so early in the season. It is after all, still June, although with private school hols and race club swarming all over the mountain you would think it was mid July.

Forecasts indicate possible snow falls in the first week of July. Thredbo is pretty well opened up now. You can ski from Antons across the Cat Track to Crackenback and Sunbrowner will sort of allow access from Crackenback to Friday Flat. A few more cold nights, which are forecast, with snowmaking will thicken up the cover on the lower slopes.
No grump today. In fact, I'm pleased to report that my skier's thumb from last weeks crash has been x-rayed and although severely bruised, bashed and torn, it is not broken.
One more day on my ski pass and then each day after that will be cheaper than a single day lift pass ;-)
