Now Is The Summer Of Our Discontent?
Surprise, surprise - it's raining again in Thredbo. 300mm of rain this month and we aren't even half way through. We did have a couple of very nice days before the rains returned but then we have also had some rather hot days as well this summer. Not that Thredbo 'hot' compares with some of the outrageous temperatures in other parts of the country this summer.
Meanwhile there has been a lot of talk about comparisons between the 2011 weather pattern and that of 1974. You undoubtedly heard that about the Queensland floods but the comparisons are being made in Thredbo too. I wasn't here in 1974 but I do know it was a BIG snow year. Only time will tell.
Rosco reports the big snow falls have disappeared in Japan and that, even though it is trying to snow, it is too warm for anything exciting to come of it.
Photos from Japan provided by Rosco and Traktorman. But first a couple taken through the rain this week in Thredbo.

Vale Bill Bursill. Bill passed away last Saturday. Many will remember Bursill's Lodge - one of the first commercial lodges built in Thredbo - nowadays called the Denman Hotel. Personally I remember Bill for his amazing appearances in the annual Thredbo Masters ski race. His last one was in 2009 at the age of 94. Bill was a true inspiration to us all.
On a happier note: Congratulations to Steve and Leanne (previously of Gourmet 42 and donut fame) who are getting officially hitched in Qld on Saturday. Party hard.
