The Snow Fairy?

Again the temperature did not hit freezing overnight and the base continues to melt 24 hours a day. So where do those piles of snow that appear at the base of the Kosciuszko Express come from? It has been suggested that the Snow Fairy has been leaving deposits at strategic locations to keep the Supertrail in “top to bottom” condition. And a good job too although the weakest link has now moved up the mountain to a section below Bunny Walk station.

The Bluff was nice today - soft but not sticky. So nice that I didn’t bother skiing anything else. The interesting thing was that the shaded snow towards the bottom of the Bluff was firming up, obviously due to a temperature drop. The winds picked up all morning and dark clouds began to roll in causing a definite lowering in the wind chill temperature.

The run-out to the bottom of Crackenback, although topped-up overnight in places by the snow fairy was not looking good by mid morning. I fear my rock-hoppers will be making an appearance tomorrow. The snow base is just getting too melded with the dirt, grass and rocks in some places. And, yes I did hit a rock today.

The bureau is forecasting snow showers for Saturday. I wonder what it will be falling on? A good freeze will certainly help especially for touring on the main range.
