Early Jump To Spring?

After the weekend the weather returned to the beautiful, fresh, blue-sky days from the week prior. Many people have commented to me how like Spring it is. There has hardly been a hint of wind, the snow has been very firm early up and softened later in the day. Of course each day had its own variations on when it would soften and by how much.

There has been very little new man made snow and no natural. Consequently the cover is thinning in many places but I was pleasantly surprised today when I made my first ride up Slow Gums chair since Saturday. The Supertrail is holding on well and the snow was quite soft - in relative terms compared to past days. Mind you, I didn't go out until midday - it just didn't look inviting enough before that.

The saving grace is that there have been very few people on the slopes. Speaking of "grace", Glenn asked me today if I had been "praying for snow?". It's not my fault. Anyway, the snow forecast by the Bureau, Frog and others for last night and today didn't happen, although as I type this there is some sort of mist over the upper mountain but I don't think its snow.

So in short, High Noon has been fast and fun. Skiers' right at the top is closed for the terrain park; skiers' left of the steep section is closed due to lack of snow. Ballroom and Walkabout probably have the best snow of all. There isn't anything else at Merritts. Supertrail was fine today and Friday Flat is getting crowded.

The sky has now greyed but there doesn't appear to be anything big in the forecasts except that swine flu may soon hit Thredbo with the onslaught of Victorian and Queensland school holidays about to hit town.

I note I have picked up 28 followers since I started "twittering" (as Lynne calls it). I'll need many more to keep me "tweeting". See the link at bottom right of this page.
