Never Ate Enough
Ok, so I’ve overdone the puns on 8’s. I’ll try to refrain from this over-enthusiasm in my following reports. After waking to a snow covered Thredbo yesterday and again this morning, there simply wasn’t any choice but to hike out in the sub zero temperatures to have a few more late-season turns. The wind was from the east and the wind chill was down around –7C. Marion and I dressed accordingly but by the time we left the walking track for Signature Hill, the extra layers came off and the sun hat and windstopper gloves replaced the full winter gear. There was not much to be seen of the fresh snow. It was quite amazing how quickly it disappeared. There had only been a few centrimetres of light dry flakes but all there was to show of the fresh fall were a few drifts about 10-20cms deep.
The old snow (still showing our turns from last Saturday) was soft on top and firm below. Easy to boot pack up and a pleasure to ski back down.
Although we started after 11am, we put in several hours, eventually getting back to Eagle’s Nest for lunch at 2:30. Each run down was so enjoyable that we simply had to climb back for another and another.
Early yesterday morning and early this morning
Crevasses below Summer Drift
Marion on a shiny sea
Easterly snowfall sticking to the alpine flora
I said it was an obsession
I know there are rocks somewhere below
Giant granite martini glass
More of those 8s
Well trashed
Time for a late lunch
Next Wednesday is looking interesting according to current charts.
Grumpy Report: The Telstra saga continues. No results (as usual) but I did get a package in the post (addressed to the phone line that they disconnected by mistake) welcoming me to Telstra and telling me all about their “Our Customer Terms (OCT)” and their customer service responsibilities – which they have breached over and over again. What a complete waste of trees.
