Richard's Report - Monday, 30 June 2008 9:11:12 AM

Waiting, waiting, waiting …

It’s coming, or so the charts tell me. Today, tonight, tomorrow, next week and onwards for months. Unless the red dust comes early, I expect the 2m+ base to carry us well into December.

Packed the touring gear and joined Ray, Lynne & Marion on a little reconnoitre out onto the main range on Saturday. The Kosi walking track was clear for much of the short journey and we didn’t get the skins out until we turned north. There was much discussion as to which way to go and I lost. We ended up on top of the ridge behind Summer Drift.

The weather was calm and sunny with a little cloud starting to roll in. We were down to our T-shirts and raised a bit of perspiration on our climb. The ski down was fun. A few turns here and few turns there. Generally the base (where there was a base) was very firm with just occasional patches of wind blown. I even managed to get a small rooster tail on one turn ;-)

We planned to attack Signature Hill via the back door on Sunday but by 10:00am we all felt otherwise inclined. The guns were running on the top half of the resort much of yesterday but alas I heard nothing last night and no plumes could be seen this morning.

It is always nice to get up high and away from the bustle

This morning it feels as though we are getting the warm front before the storm. The winds are up and the barometer is going deep sea diving. Bring on the storm. Cabin fever is only quenched by the fact that the weather (unfortunately) has been really nice.

I expect my next report to bring a smile to everyone's face. OK, may be not for the golf and bicycle hire.
