Winding Down

The Winter Season of 2004 is showing all the signs of coming to an end. We have experienced quite high temperatures and the snow pack is thawing rapidly.

Monday and Tuesday were beautiful days if only too warm while the winds picked up over the last 2 days. Tuesday night the temperature never dropped below 6C up top and the snow pack continues to be soft and sticky. The snow plough operators are doing a great job harvesting the snow to maintain top to bottom skiing & boarding on the Supertrail, Sundowner and High Noon. Unfortunately the number of “Closed” signs keeps increasing each day as runs lose their base.

The emphasis in Thredbo has been social. Monday night was Mark Travers' last night in the Schuss Bar. Tuesday was the inaugural “A Day on the Green”. This was very well organised by Macca and others and was very well attended. Music was provided by Mark Travers, the O'Donnell family and others. There were games, food, drink, fancy dress and best dressed esky competitions.

The daytime party moved onto the last night for the Schuss Bar for season 2004. It was packed with locals as the O'Donnell family put on a great performance for all. Last night was the last night Mark Travers played the Lounge Bar and was aptly aided by the O'Donnell family. The village will now become a much quieter place in the evening … at least until the November Snowy Ride.

There are very few people on the slopes so the limited skiable area has not yet presented a problem when it comes to avoiding others. It started raining lightly this afternoon and the forecast doesn’t look very friendly for the weekend.

Officially the resort will stay open to October 10 but with limited lifts open.
