More Spring

As expected the spring-like trend has continued. There is grass and other sub base compounds appearing both at the lower levels of the resort and in some wind exposed areas as well.

With the strong sunshine beating down, the snow softened earlier each day and became ‘sticky’ on the lower runs where there was man-made snow.

Today the groomed slopes in the sun were soft from early on while those areas that remained in shadow stayed fairly firm. There is still much more snow on the slopes than in the past few years.

The Thredbo Memorial race was held today and attracted many locals. The Greek theme was highlighted because of the current Olympic games and fancy dress was the order of the day. Olive leaves were hard to come by but the village ivy vines took a severe pruning.

High cloud is beginning to appear. The wind picked up to above 80kph around midday but is dropping again. The barometer is dropping but temperatures have been above zero all day.

What does this mean? We may get clear liquid snow falling tonight and tomorrow but if the cold fronts do manage to dislodge the high pressure system over eastern NSW then we should see snow. There is snow forecast for early next week.
