A New Year
Looking at the Thredbo Weather Station it was a rugged end to 2003 with temperatures ranging from –1.6 to 99.9C and winds up to 1850kph (just a little glitch somewhere there).
Christmas is past, the wrapping paper finally thrown away and the New Year is upon us bringing with it the thoughts of what 2004 will bring our way in the form of snow.
If I were told that the 2004 winter season was to be the same as the 2003 winter season I would be more than grateful. Looking back at last year it truly was a great season.
There are a good number of people in the village and New Year’s Eve went off well and into the wee small hours. Kosciuszko Express was not opened pre-dawn for the sunrise from Eagle’s Nest. Disappointing for some but not the lift staff.
The weather has been quite warm (hot on a Thredbo scale) and somewhat on the humid side but not a patch on the temperatures being experienced in Canberra and Sydney.
The reason the humidity has been so high is that so much rain fell just before Christmas. The result has been a spectacular greening of the area and the wild flowers are out in abundance.
Only a few small patches of dirty snow are to be found up high after the torrential rains and high temperatures.
Myriad of wild flowers
Looking up from Tower 10 Ramshead chair
Summer's white ground cover
The golf course was a popular place every day
More flowers
Mum, Dad and the kids down near the fire station
A reminder of last January's tragic bush fires
And more ...
The days are already getting shorter and winter is only a thought away.
Here’s to great snow in 2004!
