Snowing, Blowing, Snowing, Snowing & Blowing
Last Sunday morning at 12:30 am the rain that had been falling for several hours turned to snow. By 1:30am there was 4cms settled in the village on the roads.
From here on it never stopped snowing. It snowed all night, all Sunday, all Monday, and now at 1:00 pm Tuesday it is still snowing. Strong gusty winds kept some lifts on wind hold and/or visibility hold. No problem – no one was here and the mountain with untracked snow in every direction was mostly the domain of locals. Why more people aren’t taking advantage of the cut rate accommodation and best snow in 11 years is certainly beyond me.
An unfortunate moment with a tree on Sunday morning has severely curtailed my photographic exploits. With the swelling and pain increasing in my right hand I eventually went and had it X-rayed on Monday – good news no broken bones just soft tissue damage but with the swelling and bruising I have been somewhat reticent about removing my glove and grappling with my camera (which only works with your right hand) in the continual blizzard conditions.
The powder has been a little heavier each day but also deeper. At 11:45 this morning a combination of moisture and temperature saw the entire mountain go off – everything became very sticky even at the top of Ramshead chair. Kosi Express was closed again due to wind.

How prophetic were Mark Travis’s words that he sang on Saturday night in the Lounge Bar …”it has to rain before it snows” … “it’s going to dump tonight” …
The forecast has snowfalls contracting over the next two days and fine on Friday but I can see another big cold front heading this way for the weekend.
