Love a Surprise
I awoke last night to rain. I awoke again to sago and once more to no sound or view - could this be snow. When daylight arrived there was a dusting on the mountain - no more than what a heavy frost might provide.
The queues for Kosi chair have been getting longer as the metal races get shorter. I was way back in the queue. Wind chill was -15C and I had dressed accordingly. As the chair carried us higher you could see the fresh snowfall deepening. First 1cm then by the onsen it was 2cm. This was getting exciting. The Basin had been freshly groomed but I quickly headed off the groomed onto very dry fresh powder ranging from 3 to 5cms in depth.
I spent much of my morning on Karels. There were not many people around. I was demounting my skis to get through the rocks at the top. I had several fun, untracked runs on yesterday's very firm base.
Getting to the Rim Run was a definite challenge but worth the effort. I didn't venture over to Antons or Merritts as I did not want to face such a long and uncomfortable download.
Crackenback at 7am
Dusting on Sundance no more than a frost but more on High Noon
The Meadows grass measuring point
The World Cup onsen not as open as before
Freshies on Karels
If you could bush-bash into the Rim Run it was worth it
Deep in thought about the Deep Trax below ;-)
Despite the dump :-) I downloaded again today - view across Central Spur
Sago falling above mid-station (not open)
Yes parts of the Soupertrail look navigable
We are all excited by the forecast for mega dumps ;-) on Thursday and Friday. Well, with only a handful of days to go and burger-all lifts open, we have to get excited by something, otherwise we would all just walk away.
Could this be to 10th start to the season or am I just losing count or my mind. But, for a change, we may just end the season with a bang not the usual whimper.
