The Reprieve
It snowed all Sunday night and through Monday as well leaving around 20cm up high. Today the winds kept blowing in more snow. The snow yesterday morning was lovely – boot deep up high and temptingly deep enough to suck you in on the middle slopes. I don’t have enough cash to pay for the repairs needed for going off piste below mid station. Even so, I was touching rocks above mid station on True Blue and Little Beauty.
The best yesterday was above the Basin. Here the continual snowfall and wind filled in our tracks each run. Today there was blue sky but enough wind to still fill in my tracks each run around the walls of the Basin. There have been no crowds or lift lines this week. The temperature up top is sub zero and the wind chill sub –20C. This is keeping the upper snow in great condition. The winds have begun to fill in creeks and holes left behind by last week's rain.
Antons and Sponars are nice. Merritts is much better than it was on the weekend and the Supertrail is good to below mid station. It does get narrow at Ski-In Ski-Out. High noon remains closed and although the top looks great I suspect the bottom is a gravel trap.
Lower Supertrail 8:30am yesterday
Looks great but it's not very thick
Tower 10 - too thin
Brian, Jackie & Marion getting good powder in the Basin
Below the Bluff today
And another angle
Lower Supertrail today
The trail narrows at Ski-In Ski-Out
Where the creek burrows below Conrod Straight
Forecasts predict more snow this week. Karels was shut this morning but it will (if not already) reopen.
The Ski Patrol Race is scheduled for tomorrow morning in the Basin. It should be fun, weather permitting.
