Washed Out
Continual rains from Friday through to Sunday morning have severely washed away the snow base on the Australian snowfields. In Thredbo the resort went from most runs open to only a few today.
This morning the choice was Friday Flat (with very wet snow), Playground on Merritts, Antons, The Basin and the Supertrail. Sponars and Karels were washed out yesterday. High Noon has been closed since Friday and the Supertrail is hanging on by its teeth – or more specifically – a lot of work by the groomers.
The river is breaking its banks and creeks on the slopes are breaking out all over the place.
CONGRATULATIONS NICK WILLEY!
Nick Willey has finished his attempt at the World Record for endurance (continual) skiing. Nick broke the official world record on Friday morning and then continued on through the rain to break the un-official record of 200 hours. When Easy Does Chair was closed last night due to an approaching large electrical storm, Nick decided to pull the pin and ended with exactly 202 hours of continual skiing under his belt. Congratulations to Nick, his family and support crew, to KT and their staff who kept the lifts and slopes open for 9 days and 8 nights.
All this hard work has been to raise funds for the Australian Lung foundation. You can make a credit card donation by phoning 1800 818 545.

It started snowing late this morning and is still snowing now. The village is once again covered in white. The rain first turned to hail and then sago before flakes. We probably have about 5cm in the village. None of this lower level snow was forecast and if the forecasts have also under estimated tonight's and tomorrow's snowfall then we could be in for a few good days.
