Freshen Up
Saturday was ordinary with very firm snow, which in places turned to a deep sugar consistency - typical spring conditions. The base is still very deep in the upper areas whilst thinning in some others. The Supertrail and High Noon are providing a great cover from top to bottom.
Sunday morning it was snowing. It started on Saturday night and at times very large flakes were seen. With no wind to speak off the new snows settled where they fell and the trees looked beautiful. Visibility was poor up high and Karels T-bar was closed due to same.
We got some nice fresh turns in 10cm of new snow on a firm base – as long as the firm base was not lumpy, bumpy or rutted. On lower areas the new snow covered the bare grass and rock that had become exposed over the last week. Consequently there was the occasional gouge in ski and board bases as riders cut through the new layer.
By midday, whilst still snowing, the air temperature turned and the new snows from mid station to the village became very sticky. It was just like when manmade snow is made at too high an air temperature. Time to call it quits for the day.

Today the weather and snow is back to last week’s standard. It looks as though snowmaking is over for another year. I haven’t heard a snow gun since mid last week.
There is a lot of precipitation forecast for Tuesday through Thursday. Fingers crossed it will be colder than expected.
