Sasha's Schuss

Since Monday's powder surprise we have had a little of everything - just to keep up with my last report on 'daily climate change'. Tuesday was quite cold which sucked the moisture from the new snow and turned the untracked off piste above Bogong Creek into simply great boot deep fluff.

Wednesday was the annual Mid-Winter Dinner for the Thredbo Historical Society. The theme was, as you might expect, Frank, now in his 91st year. It was a fantastic night and had Knickerbocker full to overflowing. Great guests, speeches, food, prizes and more.

A huge amount of money was raised for the society, which runs the Thredbo Ski Museum, through raffles and auctions and some extremely generous guests. The raffle prizes fell all around me as the other tables looked on, watching Ray, Lynne, Jax, Jane & Sally clean up on almost all prizes (including skis & bindings).

A massive THANK YOU to all the sponsors, donors, long distance travellers, Brad, Monica, Ian & crew, the speakers and the tireless Marion and committee and who brought it all together. Oops, almost forgot Reggae - thank you for a very entertaining job on the microphone for the auctions. I'm sure I've missed some - sorry.

Unfortunately the snow that was falling as dinner began had turned to rain when we left. This, sadly, continued through the night and left me in indoors on Thursday. Then last night the temp dropped way down to freeze it all before a beautiful blue-sky day appeared out of the fog this morning.

An early morning trip to the chiro meant I was unable to attend, let alone photograph another special event in Thredbo. Yes, the past month has been all about Frank and his 90th birthday, but today's report is about his older sister, Sasha.

If you were at Friday Flat today you might have seen a well dressed, elegant skier of more mature years cutting the corduroy. Photos thanks to Ray.

Very few, if any, I suspect

Well done Sasha but perhaps a helmet next year? Just kidding, at your age you can do what you like. We all love you.

Forecast looks interesting for later next week.

Grump: There has been a growing trend in queue jumping even by some regulars who should know much better. Last Monday, on the last powder morning, one queue jumper climbed the fence to get on 2nd chair ahead of a full race of riders. Even I was back about chair 16 at the time.

So, if you intend to queue jump, ask everyone you are about to push in front of, if it's OK, otherwise move to Perisher, we don't need or want you here in Thredbo.
