A Little Too Much Spring
Apart from some foggy cloud, conditions have been rather spring like – blue-sky days with the snow starting firm and softening by mid to late morning.
I accepted the invitation to go to Dead Horse Gap early on Saturday morning and even then there were many tracks in front of us. On returning to the village I decided to try my kite out behind Karels where there appeared to be sufficient breeze when going to DHG. Alas, the winds beat me once again. As soon as I had the kite set to fly the winds dropped to almost nothing. I could just get the kite to fly but there was nowhere near enough power to drag me along.
Sunday the grooming was better and the crowds were non-existent for the first hour or two. A lot of snowmaking had been possible overnight. I joined a band of renegade skiers who were doing Top To Bottoms until the crowds dictated moving elsewhere to get our kicks. I found the morning very enjoyable.
Today conditions were similar to Sunday’s - lots of snowmaking although the new manmade corduroy was significantly slower than the old. Lower True Blue and Little Beauty are closed due to lack of snow but you can still exit at mid station. Tower 10 and surrounds are also closed. Bunny Walk is also closed along with Dream Run and The Schuss. Some new natural snow would be nice.
Sundowner, Sundance, Milk Run, Supertrail and High Noon are still good to the bottom.
Out of the resort was best on Saturday
Marion and Jerry enroute to DHG
Cloud moved up the valley on Sunday morning - top of Kosi Chair
Riding up into the sunshine
Top of Sponars before the cloud burnt off
Rosco is back - hard pressed to do 107 days skiing this season
Monday morning - Supertrail, Tower 10 and exit to True Blue / Little Beauty
Sponars bumps
Powder Bowl
Conditions are pretty much typical spring. The forecasts are all pretty weak and unfortunately the best we got from Kerry’s annual dump was the 10-15cm last Friday morning and that was only on the upper peaks.
