A Change Is In The Air

After several days of good weather for interschool racers – that’s got to be a first – the cloud rolled in early this morning and the wind has picked up considerably. Considerably enough to spare anyone having to endure Eagle Way when Kosi chair was put on wind hold.

I started on Kosi today and got untracked corduroy down True Blue. I wasn’t going to ride Kosi a second time but when I got down there was no queue (a first all week) so went for one more choosing to do battle with the icy bumps, rocks and grass on Little Merritts (like I had done earlier in the week) rather than go any further down Eagle Way than necessary.

Without any natural snow or wind, everything above SnowGums top station is in a very poor state. My second run down True Blue had me doing figure 8s on my first run. I then went to Snowgums and skied to Gunbarrel. Sundowner is still really nice. The queue was not too bad so I skied High Noon with Rob & Sally & Steven for a few runs. High Noon has to be the best overall run, considering the speed of the ride up, not having to negotiate rocks at the top and the quality of the snow all the way down.

Traktorman put in an appearance (without Traktorwoman) making it only his second day on the slopes this season. Someone needs to speak to his boss :-) He carried on the fight until Kosi chair was closed around midday.

Happy Birthday to Frank who turned 89 last Thursday. I hope to see you on the slopes when it gets a little less crowded.

The forecasts are looking uglier than even Eagle Way and I, along with many others, hope they are very wrong with what they say will happen over the next few days. At the moment 1982 comes to mind in regards to the volume of natural snow on the mountains.

The snowmaking system in Thredbo has reversed Mother Nature’s dry spell and we are seeing many skiers and boarders coming from Perisher and beyond to enjoy the top to bottom runs here.
