It's Falling From The Sky!

Is it rain? Is it snow? No, it's fireworks :-)

The official snow season is already into its third day and my ski gear is getting lonely, dusty & rusty. Even with the two days in May I already doubt I will get even close to the 123 days I put in on snow in Oz last year.

There were many attractions, other than skiing and boarding, over the weekend. Not one but two jumping castles, ice carving, face painting, the Long Lunch, the bob sled (open due to lack of snow) and there were bands and DJs at several venues.

There was a good crowd in the village and apart from the lack of ski-able white stuff the weather was as near to perfect as you could ask - sunny, cold days with little to no wind. Temperature inversions allowed for snow making at village level at night and this snow was well appreciated by the many families visiting Thredbo.

Potbelleez band in the Village Square started off with the Boom Boom of Led Zeppelin and after 3 hours finished up with the Doof Doof of the latest disco beats. Everyone in Thredbo heard them regardless of where they were as the band was, without doubt, the loudest band to ever play the Village Square. Their lighting was also quite innovative and instead of concentrating the lights on the good sized crowd they bounced them off the surrounding buildings and apartments.

Sad to see, but the "blessing of the snow" was down on numbers this year but certainly appeared to attract some who possible think they might need some extra help ;-) (no names mentioned here).
Some regulars to the blessing, who were absent this year, were notable in their absence.

Saturday night's fireworks display was the best I've encountered in Thredbo. Why hang around the distant shores of Sydney Harbour on New Year's Eve when you can be right in the action in Thredbo on opening weekend? The long and varied display culminated in not one huge Golden Shower but three - that's whet whet whet ;-). Look it up if you don't know and devise your own connotations.

The forecast isn't all that exciting but anything is better than rain. The temperature up top has been consistently just above zero for days and days but that may finally change this week.

So, who's Writing My Blog? Unlike Bob Carr's confession last week, I "write" and "read" my own blog. I may make grammatically and spielling mistakes but I'm not pretending its my blog or hiding behind some one else's skirt. Seems you can't believe all that's blogged, flogged, twitted, tweeted or twisted. Then again, how often can you believe a politician?
