Getting Closer

The month of May has brought mostly very high winds and one hell of a lot of precipitation, mainly in the form of rain, to Thredbo. My recent stay in Sydney has given me a first-hand account of how dry the Sydney Basin is and how much you would love our excess of rain but I'm sure you wouldn't have wanted the wind gusting above 100kph on many days.

We had the first snowfall in Thredbo back on May 11th but it was quickly washed away by a rise in temperature and more heavy rain. The water level in Lake Jindabyne rose noticeably after the heavy falls.

I believe snow making should begin next week. It is only 3 weeks to the "official" start to the 2016 snow season.

According to the 540 line forecasts, I see a little snow falling early next week. It's certainly a lot colder here than in Sydney where you could easily be fooled into thinking that summer hasn't ended yet - I guess because it hasn't.

Naplan Stress
The media recently reported school students going through "stress" due to the NAPLAN exams. For goodness sake, kids don't get stressed over school work unless made to stress by adults.

Either the teachers are stressing out their students, in which case the teachers need to re-educated or sacked, otherwise the media are just doing another beat-up, in which case, if the media want to "make" news, why don't they go and kidnap a child or light a bush fire?

Yesterday's news seems to indicate that teachers are to be re-educated in the basics of grammar. Can't go wrong there ;-)
