Easter Rush

Pleasant weather and more brought a good crowd to Thredbo for Easter. In contrast to the drop in visitor numbers to the Eurobodalla Shire, there were big crowds all over the Snowy Mountains area.

Now the weather has turned towards that true Autumnal mountain weather with mist, fog, rain and sunny breaks. Temperatures are still mild on the Thredbo scale and there has been a distinct lack of wind. This probably all means something about the upcoming winter but I don't know what it is.

Thredbo early-bird lift passes have been extended until April 30th. The extension was applied just after I had made my payment :-(

Word has it that there will be no local's pass this year.

Next weekend looks interesting on the weather maps but I'm not predicting anything yet.

The Grump:
The RTA maintains its pressure upon drivers in NSW. For those of you travelling to the Snowy Mountains this winter, be aware that two passing opportunities on the Monaro Highway just south of the ACT border have been changed from broken white line to double unbroken lines. Add to this also, almost the entire 60kph section on Brown Mountain has been changed from unbroken lines to double. This all seems to be both an arrogant and ignorant attitude toward drivers and will only result in more driver frustration and the inevitable results that go with that.

Why do the number of passing opportunities on our roads diminish every year? Is it that cars are not able to accelerate and brake faster than the cars of past decades? May be today's tyres aren't as safe as they were in the 50s? I don't think so. If it were that volumes of vehicles have increased, then why aren't the roads widened instead of policies that contine to restrict traffic flow? Hello!
