Purple Haze

You may have heard about the Pollie Pedal (politicians’ charity bike ride from Melbourne to Sydney). Well, they passed through Thredbo in appalling weather conditions and they will have earned every charity dollar the hard way.

Following a lot of rain, the temperature continued to drop and eventually late on Sunday it snowed up top. We had sago in the village just before dark and a lot of wind, which pushed the wind-chill way below zero.

Last night was our coldest this month at –3.3C but not the coldest for 2010. You know the saying “red sky at night – a shepherd’s delight”, what about the purple haze we had on Saturday evening? Quite bizarre. The snow started falling late on Sunday afternoon and continued lightly up high into the night. Looking at the resort-cams this morning revealed that the Basin appeared to get the best of the early season snowfall.

There is no snow still to been seen as I write this report.

Thredbo Jazz Festival is on a week earlier this year – the weekend before Mothers Day.
Early Bird platinum lift passes (12mth pass) are on sale until the end of this month.

Grump: Anyone who saw the TV program last night about the disgusting waste of federal money (our money) on schools would probably feel as sick as I did about the appalling waste of ‘our money’. Nothing short of gaol time seems appropriate for those responsible for ripping off Australia.
