Super Supertrail

We have been spared the forecast downpour. Sure it rained (mostly drizzled) yesterday but the slopes suffered only minor damage and today the mountain was in a much better shape than last Friday.

It has been quite a week with generally great skiing & boarding conditions except for yesterday when I didn’t bother to venture out. We have had great snow quality and I enjoyed a couple of runs to Dead HorseGap last Tuesday.

There are some thin patches appearing at the bottom of lifts and in high traffic areas. ‘High Traffic’, now there’s a joke. The slopes are virtually empty and I don’t understand why more school holidayers have not appeared to enjoy the excellent spring conditions.

I skied down High Noon and Sundowner on Wednesday and was surprised to see such a good cover for this time of year.

Today we had a light dusting that fell upon groomed slopes last night and this enabled us to get freshies and to figure 8 our own tracks for the first hour or so. With minus temperatures overnight the base is firm but not boilerplate and was good for those wishing to put in some high-speed turns.

The snow did soften quickly and the off piste with a northeasterly aspect was getting sticky by 11:00am. I’m still skiing on my good boards and haven’t considered bringing out the rock-hoppers yet.

Thredbo has extended their season, as has PerisherBlue so get up here and enjoy the long weekend – I know I will, especially with top to bottom skiing & boarding on Crackenback and High Noon.

By next Wednesday the season will be four months long since the slopes opened and starting its fifth month. How good is that?

Looking at the photos you'd think it was women's week - another good reason to be in Thredbo.
