End of the Bottom

The temperature on the top of the mountain was 6C at 7:30am this morning and I decided not to venture out. I did get all over the resort yesterday and consequently I’ll give you yesterday’s report today.

The Supertrail was in very poor condition from Bunny Walk station to the bottom. I only used it once to get off the mountain around midday but I did manage to complete the trip without removing my skis although that involved doing a few sections very slowly and straight-lining on one ski in others. The Supertrail was closed today and I don’t see it reopening this year.

Boundary Rider and Powder Bowl were in the process of being closed yesterday and Friday Flat was closed today.

The best was Karels and The Basin where soft (non-sloppy) snow was fast and fun. A little grooming around the top of Sponars would have helped as the late morning sun had the off piste around Sponars, Antons and Merritts getting a little sticky. The cover is still good at the bottom of Sponars but thinning on Antons. The only run now open at Merritts is Walkabout and the lower high traffic areas are being rebuilt each night. With the small numbers of people on the slopes the limited open runs are not a problem.

Thredbo is all set to close the lifts for skiing & boarding next Monday. There is still a lot of snow on the main range and last weekend’s top up really helped there. PerisherBlue will close Guthega and Blue Cow on Sunday leaving Perisher Valley open for another week. Smiggins is already closed.
