Dreaming of a White Jazz Festival

As forecast almost 3 weeks ago Mother Nature delivered a dusting of white for Thredbo's 27th Jazz Festival.

Not quite the full initiation for Mosman High as they got to perform indoors on both days, unlike Kirrawee High who have performed in the very chilly Village Square. The chilly snap didn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm. We had snow fall on Friday and Saturday and some sunshine during the other times. The wind however, rarely took a rest and the wind chill has been sub zero for days now. Friday's snowfall reached the village but didn't last long.

Between gigs today I took a short and brisk stroll to the bridge beyond Eagles Nest to check out what had happened up high. The double digit minus wind chill brought on burning lungs and freezing nostrils. You guessed it - I'm not yet acclimatised for the full-on winter that my bones tell me is on the way.

Back to the business of this weekend: The music was fantastic. I only got to see about half the bands but what I saw did not disappoint. There were performers who have attended many times before and those experiencing their first Thredbo Festival.

A big thanks to all the performers and their support teams, to the sound technicians, the sponsors, the organisers, Thredbo Chamber of Commerce, KT, the volunteers and the great audiences without whom the Festival would not exist. Speaking of organisers - a big Happy Birthday to Jen.

I felt that numbers were well up on last year's Jazz Festival and hopefully will be further surpassed next year.

Today was the last day of the mountain biking season. Kosi chair will be closed for the next 3 weeks or so for maintenance and slow gums will be open for the keen and fit.

The snow that was forecast this week seems to have disappeared from the forecasters' charts today. In any case, the ground is getting a good early-season freeze. Just the ticket for snow making and the next snow falls.

While on the birthday wishes: same for Immi & Greg for Wednesday.
