Off With A Bang And A Whimper
Last night went off with a big bang as the June Long Weekend Fireworks spectacular took off. After that the DJs in the square put on a great show, followed by the slumber-inducing white-noise of the snow guns making their 2016 debut.
This morning revealed a dusting of fresh white that had settled all the way to the village as well as assorted white spots where snow making had thickened the cover but not enough for skiing or boarding :-(
Hence, much attention was placed on the Village Square today. The sun was out and warm but the air temperature was quite low. A lack of wind topped off the brilliant winter weekend weather.
The June Long Weekend Fireworks were spectacular as usual
Yes that's the moon at the top - it photo-bombed several shots ;-)
Launched from midway down Sundance, I had an uninterrupted view of the fireworks
Meanwhile the sound stage in the Village Square was facing the weather as waves of snow swept through
But the fireworks shone through everything, even the moon (again :-)
The weather backed off for the lads in the Village Square after the fireworks
This morning there was a fresh dusting all the way down into the village and some snow guns were still on
Snow making on Merritts continued well into the morning (alas no skiing)
Snow making enabled tobogganing and snow play in the village
And then there was the skate park
SpongeBob Pete made first chair - at the Long Lunch
whilst Snow-Dome Man roamed around at the other end of the square
Probably due to the lack of skiing and boarding, there appeared to be
an excess of ski patrollers at the blessing of the very new snow
Yes, I realise this is 2 reports in 2 days. Don't get too excited. I can't imagine much happening in the next few days. May be when enough snow has been made on Merritts there will be a little action.
The one thing I did miss was the ice carving. I saw it start taking shape yesterday but the whole thing was gone in less than 24 hours. I don't know why but I should have taken a photo last night - sorry.
Should I say more about the music last night? Nah.
As I finish up, I can hear the snow guns starting up for hopefully a long and fruitful evening :-)
