It's Turning

It was a misty morning in Thredbo this morning (Monday) and it feels more like we are approaching winter with every passing day.

It's less than 2 weeks to the Thredbo Jazz Festival and then the closing of Kosi chair for maintenance until June 6th.

As I strolled out to Kosi Lookout this morning it looked as though summer work on the range has come to a halt.

I noticed some work has been done to replace the missing pavers
and the new bridge, doesn't look like being opened before winter

That "standard shot" from the bridge will become history when the new bridge is opened

I couldn't let this report go without a "comment" (not a grump) ;-)
Personally I believe that the new metal grating placed on the Kosi Walking Track has been placed the wrong way around.

For a long time the track has consisted of a mix of grating placed both ways and over many years I have had my own personal experiences with the metal grating.

Placing the grate with the holes across the track (as seen in the photo of the 'new' track) rather than longitudinally (as seen in the photo of the 'old' track) is more likely to trip up the toes of chunky soles like those found on hiking boots and ski touring boots. It also tends to trap and break tips off ski poles and hiking poles.

Sure the horizontal slots make it easier for bicycles (which are not permitted on the track) and it may make it easier for baby strollers - not that I have any experience with that. I'm sure that National Parks staff have a good reason for doing it the way they did. All I can say is be careful on the grating with the horizontal slots.

Of course the ultimate surface is the rubberised version also shown in the above photo but I can appreciate that it would be much more expensive.
