More Like Thredbo
Whilst egg hunting has become the big sport on the slopes of Thredbo, the late season snow conditions in Rusutsu are being described as more like a great day in Thredbo with fresh snow that's a little icy underneath.
Peter and Andrea have sent another update on the in and out of resort conditions around Rusutsu.
With the thaw, rain and lot's more snow, the slopes are crumbling
Peter's description of a comet crash site seems totally apt
And some big bits of comet survived the impact
The trail created some difficult obstacles to off-piste skiing
Meanwhile back in the resort with fresh snow and no crowds
Andrea in the trees, off the board and back on her skis
Peter getting good late season fresh
Even if getting a little slabby
Wind affected snow looking out towards what I think is Lake Toya
and beyond that Uchiura Bay in the Pacific Ocean
Lighter snow up high but much heavier lower down
making it easier going for the wildlife but not for skiing
Feedback on last weekend's 1980s reunion has been very positive. The one recurring complaint I am hearing is that there just wasn't enough time to catch up with everyone. Participants came from as far as England, America and New Zealand. I'm really sorry that other matters had deemed me to be in Sydney over that weekend.
Vale: Gustav (Gus) Herstik. Former Thredbo Coach, Gus died, aged 78, after collapsing whilst participating in the NASTAR National Championships in Steamboat Springs last Thursday.
It's been beautifully sunny and cool in Thredbo - something much better than many other parts of Australia. One result has been that the crowds in Thredbo are up on past years and it looks like chair lift ticket sales may break all records this Easter.
There are indications for a reasonable snowfall next month and an early start to the winter season in Australia.
Happy Easter
