Covered Carpet - Magic Tunnel - The Burrow
Heavy frosts and calm, blue-sky days have been the pattern in a very quiet Thredbo Village. Quiet indeed, especially when compared to last weekend's amazing music festival. Meanwhile, preparations for winter are under-way full steam. No excuses this year as the weather has been perfect for preparations.
I went for a stroll yesterday to check out some of the new installations. Some of which have not turned out quite the way I was initially led to believe. The new carpet lift at Friday Flat is very, very short and can only be accessed from the top of the Easy Does It quad chair. It is simply in place to take you from the top of EDI across the small creek to the widened Summer Road, where a beginners run (longer than anything that has been on offer at Friday Flat before) winds back down the lower section of what we used to call High Noon to the bottom of Friday Flat.
A snow fence has been erected around the Beginners Bowl on the eastern side of Friday Flat. I'm sure the fence is not so much in place for trapping snow but for trapping out-of-control snow riders thus preventing beginners sliding out of the bowl and down to the road.
Work on replacing Kozi Express cable earlier this week
The shiny new cable installed
Work on snow guns is also underway
Looking from Creek Station to the new Summer Road Run (behind the fence)
Looking back up High Noon from the new High Noon extension
Note fenced off Summer Road run for beginners
Looking the other way down the new High Noon extension
with snow guns already in place
There's quite a drop down to the new bridge
The new lift at the top of EDI taking beginners to the Summer Road
Close up of: Covered Carpet / Magic Tunnel / The Burrow
It's already got numerous names
Snow runner 1 is being moved from Friday Flat to the beginners bowl.
Great for raw recruits. Note the catch fence.
*** Winter Season Opens in just 4 weeks ***
Forecasters are finally admitting to the possibility of snow falling next week :-)
Now Thredbo has it's first 'covered' lift (not counting the evening gondola) let's hope the trend catches on. May be a hooded quad to Merritts and same to Black Sallees and to Karels and a hooded 6 pack to Eagles Nest. In my dreams ;-) Which reminds me to clean up my skins for going outback.
