And All That Blues

The 2013 Thredbo Blues Festival provided many with a cooler refuge away from the blistering summer heat. Although quite warm on Friday night all was cool by Saturday night and generally the weather gods were very kind.

To my eyes the visitation numbers were down somewhat but the upside to this was easy access to most venues and surprisingly seats as well. The event started on Friday evening and was still echoing around the village at 2:30 this morning.

My pick was newcomer Genevieve Chadwick. I was lucky enough to listen to her sing and play at Eagles Nest on Saturday. Then on Sunday evening whilst ticket checking at the Schuss bar, I had to split my top billing between Genevieve and the Shannon Bourne Band who I had not heard before either. Genevieve left Thredbo on Sunday morning to contest the grand prize at the Tamworth Music Festival and in my humble opinion, she's good enough to take it out. I commented to Shannon that I felt there was a strong Pink Floyd influence with a dash of The Doors in some of his songs. He admitted to the Floyd influence but was unaware of any Doors influence. I particularly like Shannon's solo acoustic work. Both Shannon and Genevieve are excellent guitarists. But to be fair to all, I enjoyed every act I got to see perform.

Many thanks to all the sponsors: Yalumba, KT, Thredbo Tourism and Kosciuszko Pale Ale. Also thanks to all the performers and everyone else who made it another great weekend in Thredbo.

Mild to warm weather is on the cards for Thredbo. It is really nice today but bring the fly repellant and suncream.
