Bottom Of The Superlative Bag
It's all been happening. Little Beauty was groomed for the first time this season earlier in the week and it was lovely.
Then as predicted it all went pear-shaped yesterday. I managed 2 dry runs on soft snow from Kosi chair then as I left the bottom station on my way for run number 3 the heavens opened. I completed that run on now sticky soft snow and went home. The rain continued all day and well into the night. A typical Interschools weather pattern but then the rain suddenly turned to snow. The first report said 10cms of fresh this morning but by the time we were having our first run it was even deeper and the snow kept falling and the storm intensified and it's still snowing heavily in the village.
As on a true powder day I saw very little of those I started the day with and most didn't front up for coffee either.
Upper lifts were closed and the visibility was pretty atrocious but the snow was - oh - so nice!
After coffee I spent the rest of the morning and into early afternoon skiing with Jenny in places where no one else was going. Each return trip had our previous tracks covered, not by the wind but by the continually heavy snowfall.
Many made the same comment to me about how consistent the snow was both in depth and quality. In fact the snow was actually deeper at the bottom of some runs than the top.
The rocks under the top of Kosi chair had what looked like frozen waterfalls where the overnight rain had been snap frozen when the temp dropped this morning.
Sorry folks but there are few photos, mostly due to the heavy snowfall making photography virtually impossible. If you want action photos then check out last weekend's report.
Rain washed Lower Sundance yesterday before the overnight snow
Crackenback yesterday arvo
Lower Sundance this morning
Crackers this morning
BunnyWalk is open and was heavily visited today
The bridge after midday

Lower Sundance after midday today
And a disappearing Crackenback
Tomorrow should be awesome but then again we said that last Friday. So, how did today compare with last Friday? Last week the snow was deeper but with more lifts open today there was more untracked to be had, over and over.
Happy Birthday to Rainer and Randy!!!
Not a grump but a warning today: Last week (I think it was Sunday) a major search was organised when someone, who was lost near Dead Horse Gap, dialled 000. Ski patrol and emergency services were called and eventually found the party. The moral of this story is DO NOT go out of the resort unless you are with someone who really knows where they are going. DON'T think you can just follow someone else's tracks because they may go somewhere where you can only get out by using skins or snow shoes, or they might also be lost.
This most recent situation could have ended so much worse because normally there is no mobile reception on the slopes near Dead Horse Gap.
Oh, and please take care on the roads, there is an ice layer under the fresh snow from all the rain.
